It's not difficult to learn Catalan, especially if you already know another Romance language. You can pick it up fairly quickly, and now even in your own home: thanks to the Internet, you can do your first lessons in Catalan before you come to Catalonia, so as soon as you arrive you can try it out straight away.

Once you're here you can complement your language learning by signing on for the Catalan courses offered at UPC and by visiting its self-learning centres. And don't hold back in everyday conversation; speak Catalan with the people you meet at the University.

You can also learn a great deal by listening to Catalan radio and watching Catalan television, and by getting involved in the local cultural scene in the form of theatre and books.
